The tsunami on December 26 2004 devastated Banda Aceh and the west coast of Sumatra. German Red Cross establish a basic health care unit at the town of Teunom, some 120 km from Banda Aceh. Their 44 tonnes cargo is flown down by the US military who provide a humanitarian air service.
