Barbara and Jessie McBee (in wheelchair), both 60 wait for an optician. Jessie had a stroke and heart attack in 2005 and is confined to a wheel chair. He has disability insurance, his wife has no insurance.Remote Area Medical (RAM) was founded in 1985 to provide free health, dental and eye care in the developing world. However, as the US economy is suffering a serious recession these health services are increasingly becoming necessary at home. Now RAM provides 60% of its services in the US for the estimated 47 million Americans without health insurance..Over the weekend at Soft Shell in the mountains of eastern Kentucky, (in the nation's congressional district with the lowest life expectation) RAM serviced some 700 needy people. 95% of whom were provided with dental care or optical care.
